Armenia, a small and a very picturesque country linking Europe and Asia together, is situated on the Southern part of Transcaucasia. As far back as 2000 years ago this country was one of the most powerful states in the the Near East. Nowadays it presents itself as a modern state with kind and talented people, ancient history, rich biblical legends, a great many historical monuments, traditional hospitality, delicious and healthy food, picturesque nature and safe environment.
Armenia is situated between Black Sea and The Caspian Sea, and once had access to those seas. In Northern part the country has a border with Georgia, in Eastern part – with Azerbaijan, in Southern part – with Iran and in Western part – with Turkey.
The total area of Armenia is 29800 km2. The overall length of the territory of the country is 360 km and the width – 200 km. The most part of the territory of Armenia is situated on the altitude of 1000-2500 meters above-sea level; it is bodered by the Small Caucasus mountain ridge in North and East. The highest mountain pinnacle is Aragats (4090m) and the second highest one - Kaputdzhukh (3904m). Note that the famous Mountain Ararat is now in Turkish territory, but it is just here, in Armenia, wherefrom one can enjoy the majestic beauty of the highest mountain of the world. The altitude (from bottom to top) of Ararat is more than 5 km, whereas the altitude of Everest is about 3 km (8 km is its altitude above-sea level).
